Topic: Separating crank with a press?

Is there a way to separate an early crank to check it's condition? I'd rather throw it away at home instead of sending it out for disaasembly. I have a press at home and could make some simple fixtures if needed. I searched for crankshaft related topics, but there were so many I couldn't...

Easy question: Should I shim the crank end play from .009 to .005 (,004 is the smallest crank shim I have) or leave it? I measure .009 end play with a dial indicator. All new bearings, big end pin clearance at .017.

Thanks,

Brian

Thanks for the help. I used a slide hammer with internal jaws for most of the bearings already, but the jaws just won't fit on the two bearings left. I'll check Harbor Freight and see what they have - there is one close by my work. I sure like the nice puller set, but my hope is that I'm...

I'm removing the bearings from the X440s case I have so I can replace them, but a couple of them are tough. One of the ball bearings for the transmission and the balance shaft bearing are both in blind holes without much to grab onto. Any ideas to help?

thanks

I bought the Glamis #25 from Jason Hawks. I've been doing maintenance (new A-arm bushings, ball joints, fixing oil leaks, etc.) I hope to get it up to the dunes one of these days to wring it out and hope to see some of the others. So far I've only used it in my 1 acre backyard track...<br />...

Last night I brought a dB meter home from work. The X440s with the new modular cap and the "quiet core" (cheesy tube and plate) was still over 102 dB at 1/2 redline and just under 96 at idle. The Glamis quad with a Yoshi exhaust and their quiet core was a tad less both at idle and 1/2 redl...
