Break-In

My motor should be back together this week and hopefully I'll have it mounted and running this weekend. It has a new crank, piston, sleeve, and intake valves (thanks Winky <img src="http://www.cannondaleriders.com/forums/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="...

My first quad was an '87 Warrior. It was rusted and falling apart but still a decent quad. It will overpower a 300ex or Blaster but won't really touch anything above that. It's bulkier than a 300ex so you aren't quite as maneuverable in a trail. On the other hand I'll bottom out an EX before a Warri...

I'm no motor builder and I've got a buddy helping me with this. I really hate asking him to help with more than really has to be done. He's got the head off (intake valves are bent). How much more trouble is it to get to where ya'll are talking about?

A buddy of mine pulled the motor and took the side cover off. What he found out doesn't speak too well for Mr. Winky. The timing was off apparently causing the piston to hit the valves. My friend corrected the timing and now the motor will turn over, but we did a leakdown test and we could feel air ...

If I find something simple that is causing the problem and get it fixed is it safe to ride or are there some vital updates I have to do? I have faith in my local buds as far as taking the motor apart and working on it, I just don't know what needs to be done.

I talked to Winky (motor rebuilder) and he said he would take a look at it for free if I paid shipping. The motor was rebuilt in December 2003 so he couldn't remember what all was done to it. He said they're doing an oil update for the rod bearing now that wasn't done then and that it was a vital up...
