It's been a wile but I'm sure they can come out either way/side? I think once you remove the inner seal "motor side" Find a socket that fits it and go for it.

A few sockets and a vice, or a hammer and a socket. I like to use a vice. Or a press works also.

A tip, when your doing cam timing and turning the motor over,never force it. Make sure spark plug is out.
