I agree you should not need to pull the plug, if it is hydrolocked. Just pop off the flywheel cover and turn it over manually, and you can also do it back-forth, just not as hard in reverse which could loosen the nut. Perhaps the factory covered some with plain Black... in the transition to the Cannibal. But I can see a guy covering the "400" misnomer anyway.<br />Cannondale was so conservative -- Honda and others would have been naming a 432cc machine as a 450. Even referring to our machines as 440'...

But sadly, rider Jude just reports a DNF, good time lower leg and then machine stopped before midway up. No warning or symptom to guess about yet. Sorrow today, but thanks for support.

Is the motor installed and the gearbox lubed?... Hopefully a shifter pawl tophat is not missing or cracked. Or maybe the shifter inner barplate is bent, or a spring is not correct in the drum ratchet... all requiring a motor drop. Hopefully you get lucky, before having to do that.

I would at least pull out the starter clutch pack, right-side cover 3 bolts, and see if you get the same sound... maybe a bit easier than pulling off the starter and having to ground it to test it.<br />You might find it whines under load only, or it's the clutch pack that is slipping to make th...
