Oil burning could be from hydrolock seepage, and may dissipate. If it continues (bluish smoke), well the motor might have to come out.

For the clutch, block up the left side and remove clutch cover, and work the clutch lever while watching movement.. then maybe take pics, pick up phone 48...

That's an exceptionally clean bike!, and obviously garage stored. Many of the 02 E models have the strurdy Unicorn case. But for sure, don't trust that the machine will be pumping coolant as it sits now,... and certainly don't bother to just drain the coolant, refill it,... and expec...

Ha, thanks Rod!... It was a lot of fun.
I need to post up the picture of the FAILED Aluminum impeller, that spun and spun thru 3 owners and several overheats, but luckily did not damage the intake cam threads... lucky break that all of the needed fixes and tweaks were "external". ...

I think a lower idle speed is good for any cdale out there, if it already has an opened-up fuelpath... to minimize that "jolt" from neutral to 1st or 2nd, even with the clutch lever fully IN. Or at least waiting for the auto-choke speed to tame down as it warms up a bit. And a lighter foot...

Also check the airbox for puked oil, which can get deep enough to bounce around and down into the throttle body.
The 03 E440 should have the venting hose routed into the bottom of airbox. I prefer the 02 version which has a straight hose going down to the belly pan, bypassing the airbox...for a...

I once had a machine that kept smoking blue after a long storage time. It was perfect normal before being parked.
And the common hydrolock seepage should burn away within 5 minutes.
But this one kept burning oil consistently for days. Frustrated, I finally tried an overdose of CD-2 Oil tre...

The problem is common to every Cannondale, and is NOT the checkball.. that is a bogus diagnosis... and repeated by now for a decade.. WRONG. By design, and overlooked... they ALL must eventually wick and leak oil from the frame to the sump.. and eventually OVER the piston just depending what elevati...

Hmmn I don't know the spec, but that is a "feel" thing, and also good to watch for excess deflection... less torque is better. I just hate those solid copper sealwashers that somebody started suggesting, since they need more torque for the same seal -- never intended for our delicate c...
