It is a bit overkill on the thickness, but like you said...no breaking that and no vibrating and resonance like you would get with an aluminum skid. Offers a nice slippery surface to slide over rocks and trees as well. Thanks for those who bought these! Now I need to send Timbo his, although I may blackmail him for my cranks before I send one out
