What is better... piston or stroker crank

#1 Post by TucsonCannibal »

I am thinking about up grading my motor... which is better, 450/460 piston or a stroked crank?

they r both reliable but stroker recommended for more power

which came first, chicken or egg?

They both work great, however, if you are getting crank work done, might as well spend the little extra and stroke it!

actually they both will make the same hp and tq number, the only difference is which rpm they peak out at

Not true.Stroker produces more power and more torque.

DO BOTH! lol. I have the ATK450 engine w/the 450 piston and a Timbo stroked crank which is also 450cc's. I'm not trying to dog on ATK but the stroker has quite a bit more torque. Power seems higher too but torque is off the charts in comparison. I wouldn't even consider the piston unless I was doing both.

I think reliability is yet to be determined but so far so good. With the stroker there is less need to rev the motor and you can run higher gearing.15-38,39 seems to be favorite. So I would think it might even last longer than stock stroke with everything else being equal.

sorry to say it but your wrong, its been proven on a dyno.A big bore motor peaks sooner than a stroker

Well I guess the dyno runs I did and the fact I have had both dont matter then. You may be thinking 450 stroker?Show me the charts. Here are mine.
450 piston stock stroke:
