Are 06 450R's that slow???

#1 Post by toothandnail »

Went to a poker run Sat. with about 50 quads 10 bikes(won $30.00)smile.gif . anyway, there were 2 new 450r's all stock, very good riders(B class in nationals MX), but in the drag races they got SMOKED by every other 450 there, some stock, some not , they ran close to the 05 450r's but the yfz's all won by 3 + lengths. Of course the dale :hammer:s all, after about 4 runs they didn't want me to race anymore:cool: Just thought they were supposed to be faster than 05's.

Bone stock 05 should lose to a bone stock 06. Should. Change the gearing on the 05 and do ANYTHING to the motor, even just a slip-on and you should walk all over the 06. These quads really respond to mods, but are really pathetic bone stock. A totally stock 450r isn't even worth riding in my opinion. Put the hrc kit on and then you have some fun. It is a totally different machine then.
Yes I owned an 05 and now have an 06.

I just re-read your post. I think the 06 has different gear ratios so that top speed might not be as high as the 05 if that is what you are talking about? However it should be quicker to reach top speed.

Did the 06 and 05 both have same size tires? I guess what I'm trying to say is that the 06 should be a little quicker. I sold the 05 to get the 06, so I didn't get to line them up, besides, my 05 was highly modded by the time I sold it. All things being equal, the 06 should win. But even a small change like tire size could tip the balance. I'll take the 06 with the HRC kit over an 05 with the HRC kit anyday. The main things are supposedly quicker reving and higher rev limit. I can vouch for the higher rev limit. I have the HRC installed and it is definately noticeable.

What are the differences in the 05 and 06? Did honda make any internal changes?

Every one was running 20's from stock to holeshots and razors the 450r's were stock ,first ride, the fastest yfz also running stock about 1/2 tread, I was running holeshots about 3/4 tread. Tires didn't seem to make much differance ,I didn't notice anyone haveing traction problems.

Alot of changes were made to the 06 head. DAB Racing says the 06 is a better design stock vs stock 05 head. He said he isn't gonna be able to port an 06 and make it run like a ported 05 head.. He is still R&Ding an 06 head. This is for all out dunes and topend. I don't ask about mx porting since that's not where I ride..
