Maybe you all can help me with some thing...
When was the 02 motor changed? ( what Date or what Vin #?) I have a 2002 Speed #111 I bought my Speed in NC on 02/05/02 at Triangle Cycles of Durham.

The reason I ask is that My 2002 Speed is so different then what I see posted on this site....

For example I ordered the motor mount update kit for Cdale parts when they first got them because every one on this site said you got to have it or your motor mounts will break... Well that turned out to not be true cause my Motor case is different and the bolt and spacer will not fit. Its over an inch to wide. My Motor Mounts are way to Big for it to fit.

I was about to order the stage eight kit but instead of getting burned again I just did some checking on the Stud bolts first... They were all tight and in as far as possible the locktight was where it was suppose to be.....

I did reroute my fuel line around the motor to stop a vapor lock problem that I was having... I had a cold start map with a 02 blaze map installed.

But that is all I have done...I have been Woods racing for 2 years and just started MXing this year with no problems... And trust me I give it he!!..

I am not trying to start a flame I am really curious as to why my speed is so different or should I say all my friends in NC Speeds are so Different then what I see posted.

I have weighed over 250lbs the whole time I have owned it and have put it through a beating but it still kickin Butt. Proof below!

JBB

I got my 02 Speed # 24 at Triangle too and have had great luck with it.

I think the major difference is the crank, the first cranks where billet but there was a problem with bearings in the 01's, then they changed to a cheaper cast crank in mid-late 02. We slipped in with the old billet cranks and good bearings and have very solid motors

The other major change was the case, they went to a new casting process in late 02 and seemed to have some problems.

Then their was also the piston change, the newer ones have a problem cracking sleeves due to a manufacturing problem

sounds like you been lucky SPEED!

Yours musta been built right after they figured out the initial screwups and before they started trying to make them cheaper. Your quad is what they were meant to be. It's been my opinion for a while that your vintage is the most desirable 'dale.

Nice pics too!smile.gif

It is real simple. You have the cast case which seems to eliminate most of the problems. You more than likely have the good crank and aluminum valvecover also. You are lucky I bet 80% of the quads out there dont have the cast case or good crank. Also most people dont post or even look for the sites until there is a problem. As far as the motormount update being a inch off that is a new one I bet the spacer was made wrong or it is the type where you have to remove the steel inserts in the case.
From your description of your quad it is one of the inbetween ones. The only thing I didnt like about them was some had that screwy wiring harness that required the diode update.Other than that yours and the refurbs were probably the most trouble free of all the Cannondales.Congrats on your luck

This is my reply and thanks for the info from you all at Cannondalers!

hank you so much for your reply...

That is good news and news that i was think and was told but never was confirmed. It seems we have a few other lucky people in my area... they must have all been made and sent out at the same time.

As far as the Spacer for the motor mount... trust me I looked and looked for a way to make it work... I even took it down to a dealer and there is nothing to remove to make it fit. The dealer told me to just remove the two bolts and put in the one long one with out the spacer... I said no way on that idea.. I thought about getting some one to cut down the size of the spacer but was told by a friend that I had a different Case and did not need that up date.

I have been so amazed at all the problems other people have... I really hate it for the people who have had them... I hope some of you can see why I am a little weary of updates.. I Truly do not mean to be a rude.

Believe it or not my Cannondale has been more reliable then all of my friends 400ex's ... And that is no over statement.... Everyone else is always trying to fix there quad just before or on race day... I am always ready.... It is a Shame that Cannondale made changes to the quad to make it less reliable .. I relies they where trying to save money but at what price?
thanks again for the info.. Peace Jerry

Don't know the serial numbers, but dates would be somewhere around 10/01-4/02
