besides the tension adjustment on the cable there is an internal adjustment. It takes a special tool that is sold by Brad and maybe others.

As for your quad engaging quickly in 1st....Does it always do this or just at first while the quad is cold? If its just at first it could be your oil. The clutch plates are dry at first at engage quickly until they get good and oily.

When its cold out the oil is so thick it drags.Try some different oils or just wait till it warms up.The third plate those tabs are bent pretty far I would throw that plate out.You can use a snapring pliers to hold the slottes outfit for clutch adjustment.
