it is the little cover on the right side of your motor, it sounds to me like it is the bearing because i had to tear my motor down for the exact same thing. but first just pull the starter because you have to either way anyway and see if the gear spins both ways which it probably will btw you arent in indiana r u? i could help you with it if you were.

I had that happen to me in the middle of the first Spartan GNCC last May. First lap I killed it and it just spun every time I tried to start. Was able to get a tow down a hill to restart and return to the pits though. One way bearing was bad.

there is a place in gallapolis that works on dales i think that sounds close to you.
