he was not on the quad anymore at the moment of impact.

It happened during a hill climb. quad stalled at the top of the hill. Rider fell of and quad went tumbling down, and half way on the hill the quad landed on all 4 wheels and the engine fired up again. During the first part of the tumbling the handlebar broke and the throttle cable was pulled, so it was at full throttle. So the quad came full throttle 3rd gear down the hill and at the bottom it hit a three...

Ouch! I did that to my Z400 a few years back when I rolled it down a steep hill. I destroyed my stearing stem, plastic, and handle bars.
