This is the head off my brother's z400 after the teeth broke off the plastic oil pump gear. The cams ground into the journals unitl the cam gears started spinning on the camshafts and it finally got too far out of time to run.
On that z400 head . There is a lot of trouble caused by running the cams in the head without bearings. Hot cams really make it bad. My local crank shop has been modding the heads to accept roller bearing like the cannondale and hasnt had any trouble with cams or chains since.
How much does it cost to have the head machined to accept the roller bearings, do you think that this head can be salvaged? He is running on his fourth cam chain now if bearings will help maybe he needs to get it done.
You can call and talk directly to the designer himself. Its Brain at Kinney racing . 1 715 359 6390. I just talked to him today. He said the roller bearings have been trouble free .
