I have had my blaze since 2003 when i bought it brand new and havent had any problems with it. I feel like I should rebuild it because of everyone saying its going to blow! So I figured it would save money to rebuild it now before it does blow.

So I had a few questions on what to do.. Is it worth the money to do a 450 piston or should I just do the stock bore and get it ported. I was also wondering while its apart what else can I do; do they make cams? what can I do to make it very reliable and faster. My friend has a 450 honda with 63hp how can I beat him "If possible" and not spend a bunch of money and keep the quad reliable. Is there anyone around the long Island area or should I just ship it to Matczak?

My best advice to you would be to read a lot of these posts on here. To get anywhere close to 60 hp is very pricey and a crap shoot. The best motor I ever had was a 467 . Around 57 -58 HP I think that is the only size I have never blown up. I have 2 505s and both blew up. As for getting something cheap I think you would be better off buying a quad with a updated motor in it already . just my 2 cents other people on here know a lot more than I do.

I would buy your freinds 63hp 450r. You want it more reliable than it has been and want 63+hp for cheap? That cannondale has never existed. I person would never put a 50plus hp engine in a narrow blaze chassis due to it being unweildy.

If I want to rebuild it to make it reliable and do it inexpensively should I just keep it 432cc balance the crank and replace the bearings and port it?

Yep performance porting is where its at. Keeping virtually all the stock parts keeps it cheap ,available ,reliable and 50hp is doable with the stock blaze exhaust. If you wanted to beat your buddies 450r you could wait till it blows up which will be soon or put nitrous on your blaze . You will need a tool steel wrist pin when using nitrous.

Ok thanks.. Would nitrous be pushing the motor to much making it so I would have to rebuild it sooner?

the squeeze (nitrous) would wear it much faster if you are lucky enough to not blow the rod out of the case. go for the porting best bang for the buck.

Make sure you get up to date on all the fixes. Balancing is not the fix for cranks as once thought...

Here are some hp numbers I have seen after proper dyno tuning:

432 with open air filter, dirtbike velocity stack, aftermarket exhaust canister, Moto map, 106/106 cam timing = 45hp

Same as above with Timbo porting = 47hp

Same as above with radical cam timing (113/111) = 49hp

450 with Cyclone velocity stack, Timbo porting, aftermarket exhaust canister, 106/106 cam timing = 52hp

460 with Cyclone velocity stack, Timbo porting, aftermarket exhaust canister, 113/111 cam timing = 55hp.

Just a baseline to think about. I'm sure I will get some arguements, but I have seen these numbers on our tuning sessions. Just because we don't post the chart doesn't mean we don't tune... Your choice to believe me or not. smile.gifsmile.gif

My 495cc has been the most reliable combo it has ever been. Its the wait for the crank that's a killer.
