Hey,

I am looking around for used cannondales, and I have found a pretty cheap 02 cannibal. It is stock and pretty sure it has no updates. If I got this cannibal, should I do the updates right away? Is there a certain amount of riding time where the problems occur, or can they occur at any time? Thanks for the help.

They can occur at any time, but odds are that if the bike has more than 40 hrs it is ok to ride for a while till you get the funds to do the upgrade to the crank.

The other updates can be done right away. Not to expensive for the vent update, and if you can wrench you can do the crankcase update.

So it'd be ok to ride for awhile until I got the money to do the updates, is what you are saying.

If it runs ok then yes. If there are issues you might want to do them right away.

Also, do you know if the 02s had different shocks from the 03? I read that somewhere, but I can't remember where.

2 different shocks came on Cannibals - Ohlins and Arvins. The Ohlins are silver behind the spring and the Arvins are black. Easiest way I know to look at them.'

Also check the rear shock - it will be either an Ohlins w/golf piggyback or a Fox w/reservoir.

So cannondale actually downgraded the suspension on the 03 cannibal?

Kinda, they really juct made it worth buying a speed though. When they first came out all you got for with the speed over the canninbal was handlebars, seat cover, and a higher rev limit. So they had to do something.

I see, the engines were the same on both the 02 and 03s, correct? So, the reliability issues would be the same.
