Ouch!

#1 Post by Jaybr »

As some of you know, my daughter is going off to her freshman year at college (we where suppose to be moving her into the dorm today). Last night she had freinds in and out saying goodbye. About 11:00 the last 2 where leaving and the 3 of them walked outside to their cars. Not long after heading outside I hear all three of them screaming, and they came running back into the house with one of them telling me there is a snake in the driveway beside her car and it reared up at her. I head out with a flashlight and quickly spot a nice sized copperhead in the grass almost to the small section of woods between me and my neighbor. I like snakes just fine, and wouldn't bother a non-poisonous snake, but a copperhead in the side yard was not going to fly. Too dangerous with all the small kids around and my dogs. I approach the snake planning to try and keep it out of the woods long enough for someone to fetch me a shovel or something to kill it with. Well, it's rained alot here lately and the grass was very wet, and I had on slippers. I touched the snakes tail with my foot thinking it would stop moving and instead it turned and struck at me. I jumped back, slipped in the wet grass, and fell on my pride. I quickly jumped back up because the snake was headed my way, when I got to my feet my left knee buckled and I almost fell again, uh oh....

Apperently when I slipped, I twisted my knee pretty bad. Can't put any weight on it without it buckling on me. Went to the doctor this morning (instead of taking daughter to school) and looks like I have torn tendons or acl. They wrapped it up in a brace, gave me some crutches, and refered my to an orthopedics specialist.

Good news is, Lil jbr fetched me a shovel and I hobled after the snake and got the best of it.

Bad news is, I can't make the ride at 4punks this weekend.

I didn't get out a ruler, but I estimate this guy to be about 3', not particularly big for a snake, but a very good sized copperhead.

I chopped it a couple inches back from the head, you just can't see it in the pic.

Cripes I bet that got the heart pounding!Sorry you got hurt.My advice on the knee is to find a specialist to give you a MRI before they scope it.It is alot of money but well worth it if it can save you from the scoping. That said you are now a Hero!Even the damsels in this one:clap:

Jay,

Sorry to hear about your knee. Get the MRI, your insurance will cover it, if the Ortho recommends it.

You and 'stones can start your own hospital wing.....

You know snakes eat frogs and since Dales have a frog look to them maybe he thought it was lunch time. LOL I feel kind of lucky up here in WI . No piosonous animals to contend with.
