i went riding yesterday and the ol dale ran awsome, smoked everyone, but when i got back to the house and turned it off for a while, i went to fire it back up and their was no sound of the motor turning over but like the starter spun but not the motor? is my starter goin bad? what is that noise? it only does it every now and then, some times it will slip for a min. and then catch and start how do i fix it?

mine did that and it was the one way clutch(sprague maybe?)by the crank.

that sounds like what mine did and the starter sprag was bad, actually the spring the holds the one way bearings in broke you have to take the crank out to get to it.

Clutch or 1 way bearing, yes.

my starter cluch or the one way bearing, so how hard would this be to fix? what would i have to do? (take out, or off)

starter clutch you would have to take off the little side cover on the right side of the engine as you sit on the quad, starter bearing/one way you have to take out the crank to get to it.sad.gif

it also makes a loud clanging noise scence it started this, and how do i pull the black over off on the right? and how do i tell if the starter cluch is bad? or if its the bearing

topull the cover there are 3 bolts on the side cover they are pretty small i think a 6mm socket is the size, but to see if you starter bearing is bad you need to pull the starter and the gear that the starter drives should only spin freely in one direction if the bearing is bad it will spin in both directions. and yoe it does make a god awful noise when this happens.

so u think its the bearing or cluch? so its not the black over its the silver one with the three bolts, so if the cluch is bad do i just get a whole starter?
