Alright I know this has nothing to do with cannondale or offroad vehicles period, so I put it in this forum! laugh.gif
Anyways I adjusted the timing to the factory setting and now it has absolutely no get up and I can't even get out of first gear. I was wondering if anyone had any advice. I was thinking air-fuel ratio might be way off now, but I wanted to get some input first. Thanks.

Did you buy the truck runnig like this? or did it start running bad after the adjustment? dose it still have a converter, is it pluged? if it started runnig bad after the adjustment I would say to make sure you used the right plug wire. Then check to verify the timming marks are correct

Alot of vehicles you have to disconnect a wire or maybe in your case vacuum line before doing the timing.

Yes all I adjusted was the distributor. I bought the truck and it was running fine, but i thought i'd check the timing because it was getting really horrible gas mileage. I used the #1 piston spark plug as per the firing order stamped on the intake manifold. It starts easier now and idles a lot more quiet than it used to, it's just that it has absolutely no power.

disconnecting the vacuum to the dist and plugging the vacuum port on the carb I believe is a must for this. otherwise the vacuum advances the timing. I'm going to guess you ended up retarding the timing if you timed it with the vacuum advance hooked up. oh yeah and almost forgot sometimes people forget to rehook up the vacuum advance after timing the engine.

Alright so what I forgot to do was plug the vacuum advance off. I readjusted it today and now it runs fine, but it looks like it's pretty much in the same position. So the only other thing I can think to do to see where I'm losing fuel economy is to tear down the engine and see if there are any problems there. Thanks for the help everybody.

Before you tear it down do a compression test that will tell you a lot.

very good thing to do before tearing into a motor. rule of thumb all cyls should be within 10% of each other and all above 90psi. again (rule of thumb)
