I'm not too sure axis shocks will blow ohlins out of the water. You would be better off going to Mike Hallock the guy that started custom axis and he now makes the Exit shocks. Custom Axis is just a bunch of car guys that think they know quads.

Im guessing that the zbrothers is. Who's doing the exit shocks according to their website. Almost in the class with elkas at $850 pair. That's why you can't by a ferrari for 50,000 lol!!!
I guess its all preference. The axis shocks look better engineered.

If you are buying shocks based upon how they look you will be disappointed. All of the major manufacturers use similar materials, shaft sizes, etc however the magic and what you "should" be looking at is the company who will best setup the shock for your weight, setup, riding style, etc. Some people (not saying you are) put too much stock in the way things look or brothers friends cousins shocks.

Fact is all of the big guys (Ohlins, Elka, PEP, Fox, Axis, Exit, etc) are quality built shocks. If I was looking at MX and was buying new shocks I would be looking very hard at setup, service, and reputation. IMO for setup "right" first time out of the box, PEP is ahead of them all their many YEARS of trackside testing. Elka's biggest complaint is their valving and spring ratio's are almost never correct out of the box. Wayne from PEP is where I would look if you are looking for a great set of MX shocks right out of the box. If you are going to drop that kind of coin go right for the PB-1's...you will not be disappointed

No, they will not blow the ohlins out of the water. The moto ohlins setup is pretty high quality.

Moto Setup = free
custom setup = 2k

You really think you are going to get that much of a better ride? Have you ridden the moto setup yet? Sorry, but when setup correctly its pretty hard to beat the moto suspension. If you were riding pro with sponsorship then ok sure.....
