sprag clutch help please

do i need to take the head off to replace the sprag clutch?

I think you do because you need to remove the piston and cylinder and crank assembly. unless I am thinking of the wrong thing.

yep that's the right one your thinking of i was just hoping for an easier way it just seems like a lot of work

I've done it with out taking the head off. But I really think its depends on the casting of the crank cause I was just barley able to wiggle it past the crank. You never know pull the crank plate and try it, it's no lose of time. I had the motor laying on its side and the counter balancer came out without the starter gear. So I did have to put it back together in 2 pieces also. Still well worth the time saved from pulling the head.

You wont be able to see the timing marks (dots) so before you pull out the counter balancer make sure you get a marker and mark the gears so the crank and counter balancer stay in time. Thats about all I can think of for now.
