Group Ride Dyno Day
Here are a few charts of my two MX quads at Snyders Motorsports where we showed the owners there what Cannondale HP is all about. The dyno operator went on to tell us that their Dyno read low from what people told him but based on the numbers it seemed to be right on. The highest ATV HP they had was 47-48hp out of his own modded YFZ....well records were meant to be broken and broken they were.
Here is my 495 that is running a stock 02 header (the full pipe was out of commission) and HMF slip on, 50/50 MIX of 93 and Cam2 110 leaded. The axle was also bent which may be responsible for a loss of 1-2hp but who knows?? Timbo said the map he sent for this motor should be close.... I guess Timbo was right on the money. He asked the dyno guy to pull up the AFR after the first run and when it came up on the screen we were all like WOW. It looked like someone drew it with a ruler. Thanks again Tim!
It should be good for an extra 2-3hp on top with the full pipe, straight axle and fresh packing, but I was not looking for peak #'s but a very wide and usable powerband which this had without question. Making 50+HP from about 7,200 to over 10K RPM and a nice fat torque range. This machine is a racer and not a drag bike or dyno numbers queen, and I know to get to 60 I will need a full pipe and some oxygenated race fuel.

The numbers look almost as nice as the 495 that is a fresh build, however seat of the pants there is a HUGE difference between riding the two. Here are their charts overlayed on top of each other.

As you can see the 495 is putting down more power everywhere, so when looking at peak dyno numbers they can be misleading. It is the power curve under the peak that tells the real story.
You race these two bikes and the 495 will wax it over and over again. This difference is even more apparent when you have a 55hp 450 and lay that chart on top. Peak #'s are great for bragging but put them head to head racing and the difference will be huge. The big motors win every time even though the peak HP numbers are identical.
I wish I pulled off the full system off this machine and put it on the 495 to see the difference.
My XC racer will be the next chart once Tim sends it to me. This machine I believe we picked up almost 6hp in the midrange just by tuning...so stay tuned!

That dang airbox is a power robber in low mid range but yet it just makes so much sense!Almost worth the tradeoff for a Harescramble or trail machine that you know is going to see water,mud and dust galore.Sure wish we could come up with a better performing alternative that offered as much protection.
