Hello all, new to the C'Dales and am hoping to find some info on my new ride. I bought what was listed as a 02 E440, which turned out to be a MX400 with what I believe is a X440 engine. It is titled and somehow street legal in NC. Runs great, really enjoying it other than a PITA to find out info on it. The Engine numbers are MAA5B1000331 and VIN is 5B6AA11C81B000301. Any help will be greatly appreciated. One other question, does anyone know if the bodywork off of a 02+ will bolt onto the 01 frame? Thanks

2002 X440's plastic will fit but not the E,X,C or S440 plastic from 2002 or 2003. I can see from the picture that at least the side cover is from an MX400.

Are you referring to the engine cover? IF so, now I am wondering if anything he told me was true. I know that it is not the John Deere motor, but not much beyond that. I can find absolutely nothing on the engine. I searched the Dyno records on Cannondaler.com and found no reference of the engine or bike VIN.

Don't let Promod see that engine side cover! He has been searching for one of those aluminum covers for some time now. I have a MX400 with the John Deere case, but the side cover had been swapped for a magnesium one.

Nice looking bike. I prefer the red or black plastics on the MX400 instead of the X440s silver plastics with the huge all white side number plates.

Yes , I was referring to the side cover. Contact Kdeal on this site he has the early records for the 2001 bikes and is your best chance at identifying your bike.

That is indeed a '01 MX400 with a few parts added on from later models, and that is the original engine that came in it!, it was originally sent to a guy (name withheld!) in salt lake city UT on 02/19/01! Ciao! MW

Can you tell by your records if any upgrades have been done to the engine? I am really concerned about what I have now. Previous owner fed me a line of chit a mile long!!

There are a couple of those covers on ebay now, one is only $5 bucks, assuming they are the same as a 440 cannibal?

Was that one of the engines with all the issues?
