coil problem

does anyone have the specs to check a coil to see if its good ,resistance maybe? .well the problem is i hooked up a pro design kill switch like i had read in the post and it worked fine .but no one told me that if u leave the tether cord unplugged for a long period of time it continues to short out the coil and it heated up rather quickly .now i cant seem to get it running .the coil still sparks .but im thinking it might not be strong enough spark to fire ,because it wants to fire up. anyone have any suggestions.thanks

How did you hook up kill switch and what brand was it?
