Hey yall whats up,
I just recently bought a cannondale Cannibal i'm pretty sure its an 01 its got some motor work done to it and its now a 480 the guy i bought it from said there is problems with the starter. He said the shear pin (sorry if its incorrect) is out or broke on it. so it won't start with the battery. It will however after being push started. I was wondering if there is anything special that needs to be done to obtain the part i need and where to go to get it. I also would like to know who makes manuals for the machine and any basic maintinence or critical areas i should keep an eye on stuff like that. it seems to be a pretty sophisticated machine so before i go rippin on it i want to make sure everything is in proper running order. Any Dealers in Ohio near the medina area? any info would be Awesome!

thanks
josh

I also just bought a 2002 Cannibal with the Black Widow 450 engine. I pick it up this Saturday. I am somewhat ignorant about Cannondales specifically; but there seems to be a lot of good people with great info on this forum.
The manuals are on this page:

Also, there is a Black Widow forum on this site, you might post something there as well about your starter issue.
Good Luck!

Your starter issue sounds like the one way bearing is bad. small fairly cheap part, unfortunately it involves a complete tear down.

I really hope you got it cheap because that could be a near complete motor tear down to repair. There is not any "shear" pin in there that I know of... there is a starter one way clutch that is on the ballancer and is deep inside the motor.
480cc? Not a very common size to build to, not saying it cant be done, but most of the motor size combinations are on the order of 432,450,460,467...505 etc: Kind of makes the whole story suspect IMHO. And I have a hard time swallowing that he really believed that it was something minimal like a shear pin that makes it sound easy to fix.
The part is not too expensive and in the hands of a good builder it could be replaced in a couple of evenings but if it is your first time it will be a project for sure... all the info is available here and there is plenty of help when you need it.

I agree with Rayspeed.Something shady there. There is 480cc motors=stroker crank and 98mm piston.Just a very rare combo whoever owned or built that motor knows Cannondales and knows better than to say a shearpin is issue. We should get a name on this loser.Shame.

He could mean the roll pin on the crank shaft for the counter balancer gear?

A standard stroker crank (2.2mm stroke) and a 460 piston (98mm bore) does make 480cc. There are a few around, and it's possible this could have been a Wade or Winky motor. Making it under the radar for the most part. I would be more suspect of ther not being any decomp mechanism in an unknown builder's motor more than anything. That would definitely cause the one-way bearing to go bad fairly quickly. I seem to come across a lot of unknown motor builder's motors. The Glamis one i just took apart was a Winky motor but had some other weird owner add-ons as well.
