1: Is there any way , and what's the $ , to make the x440 rear suspension softer on the first 2" of travel ? Similar to a yfz or crf, or is that only in a linkage suspension? progressive rate spring?

2:why can't bikes run a 0 preload like quads ,it would lower the center of gravity/seat height and still have the full travel off jumps?

The linkless rear suspension has always been a challenge. You need incorporate the progressiveness of a linkage.

The best way is to install a progressive spring, whether it's a one peice or two spring set up. A true zero preload like the PEP set up is too harsh IMHO. You need a little heavier spring on top that will let the shock have a much smoother transition.
And then you need to make the valving position sensitive. Ohlins has already done it with two pistons. with the secondary piston adding to the damping equation via a sleeve or "cup" inside the shock.

You could zero preload a motorcycle, then you would have to do the same upfront. Then you would have issues with ruts and low spots. A bike tends to fall into the ruts, whereas an ATV tends to ride ontop of the terrain. In flat track suspension set up, we lower the bike 3-4" front and back. Of course we are only dealing with smooth terrain compared to offroad.

Also, on an ATV, ride height is paramount to handling. Always dancing the fineline between low enough to enhance turning prowess yet not too low to get hung up.
And bikes have the ability to be leaned over in the turns, which counters the need to lower the bike to make it turn. Don't get me wrong a lowered machine with a lower CG will always turn better, whether it has 2 or 4 wheels. It's just we pay a much higher price when we lower a motorcycle.
