Shock seal blown?

Hi I did a wheelie on my 02 cannibal the other day and when i came down from it I noticed that my rear shock was really bouncy. I'm not a specialist or anything, but I think that I blew the seal or something? Haha. I went out the next day to look at it and there was a bunch of fluid pooled in the swing arm.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I'm right in my assumption that the shock seal failed and if so where can I get a new seal.

Thanks,
Kodi Summers

Yes that's what happened. Once oil is leaked out you should not ride it anymore or it can cause more damage. Send the shock over I will take care of it.

Okay well I just got around to actually removing the shock from the quad and it is actually broken. I'll take some pics and post them as soon as I can. How much is it to rebuild? Or do you have any shocks that I can just buy from you? Thanks.

I have that part on hand. It's a one way valve to keep the rebound circuit from affecting the compression. When you removed the shims did you keep them and all other parts? If so $10 for the part and $30+shipping for the rebuild. Never saw one of those fail before.

I haven't taken the main shock body apart yet so I'm not sure about the extent of the damage, but I'll send it out to you today. Wow you've never seen this fail before? This happened just from riding a wheelie haha. Anyways, do I send you payment now or should I wait until you get the shock and have taken a chance to look at it to see the extent of the damage? Thanks.

The shock is headed your way, but unfortunately the shipper wasn't able to include a return label? Anyways, you can just include that into the overall total cost. I sent you everything that came off the shock minus the spring and mounting bolts. Thanks for your help.

I can fix it but its not good. The threads ripped out of the "Nut" that holds the shaft into the shock body. When that happened the shims fell off and banged everything internal around.I suspect it was ridden without oil or very little oil for a while. When I saw your shaft pic I assumed you took the shock apart.Actually it looks like your shock got ripped apart. So here is what would need replacing along with my $30 rebuild charge.Of course I would return all the damaged parts. These are used parts since new would be well into the hundreds of $'s:

Shock Piston/Ring-$20
P.D.S Piston and Nut-$20
One Way rebound valve-$10
4 shims-$6
Rebuild-$30
Shipping-$20
----------------------------------
Total=$106

I know these shock can be found whole for less and would completely understand if you dont want to fix this one.Let me know if you want a picture and how you want to proceed.

Thanks,
Steve

Well let's go ahead with it. Would rather know that I have an almost new rebuilt shock than a shock that I know nothing about. As of right now though I will have to wait until next Friday to pay you because I wasn't expecting that much, but I will have the funds next Friday. So if you want I can pay $50 to you right now and I'll pay the rest to you next friday at which point you can ship it out or you can wait until I can pay you in full to start rebuilding it. Let me know what you want to do.

Thanks,
Kodi
