I installed the Canniboomer filter setup today and was impressed with how easy the install was...everything was labeled as to where it goes and it only took about an hour including the removal of the airbox...should I use a certain type of filter oil on the Unifilter?...Would just a spray on filter oil work?...Im running the double foam filter plus the outerwear...also the quad "ripped" with no map change after install...think I might play with some different maps to see what they feel like tomorrow...thanks Dave and Peterock for the help...its greatly appreciated...I highly suggest this product to any dale owner...

Use one of the Biodegradable systems like No-Toil. They are so much easier to clean and cost less than the spray on ones. Better coverage also since you soak whole filter in it then wring it out less is wasted with known good coverage. Plus your hands end up nice and clean after your done if you just wash them with the cleaner thats left over.

I have the No-Toil filter cleaner system...should I not run the outerwear then?...wont it get all gummed and oiled up?...will it still breath right?...and will the oil and cleaner end up rotting the outerwear out?...

Outerwear wont get gummed up if you do the filter right and wring it out. Oil wont hurt Outerwear. Lot of us used to oil the Outerwear when we ran K&N filters in attempt to keep from sucking dust. Never hurt the Outerwears. With foam filter don't put the Outerwear on unless its wet (puddles or rain) or if in sand. Sand will get stuck in a foam filter and it can be hard to get it all out. Outerwear definitly hurts flow so only use it when you have to.

The supplied Outerwears are the water repellent version, and are included with every kit, both UNI and K&N. At the mounted angle, they also help to shed debris like grit and fir needles that may otherwise lay on top of a stickier foam surface. We tend to run them all the time out here, to avoid pulling plastics from ride to ride. Over a K&N for any off-road use, I would consider an Outerwear mandatory.

All of the companies will claim that Outerwears don't affect the flow, or it's negligible, -- and I don't think I buy that either. But if your Outerwear does not pucker IN, or just barely, when you stab at the throttle to full open, then you are getting all the air that your particular machine can use. In that case, like most cases, you are instead limited by the intake, throttle body, porting, exhaust, or the condition of the filter itself,....and not by the Outerwear.

I forgot to ask.

Is anyone out there using No-toil cleaner with UNI filters? for a long time?

I ask because UNI warns against using any cleaners containing alcohol, which they say affect the glues they use in the filters. Has that been a problem?

If thats the case maybe I'll hold off on using the No-Toil cleaner until someone comes forward saying otherwise...what cleaner would u suggest Dave?...27 have you had any problems with the No-Toil cleaner on the Uni?...

You are not supposed to use the No Toil cleaning system with a UNI. I use only No Toil filters, because they are great, and take care of me, and are made in USA, near Sacramento, CA. Their cleaning system is spectacular.

In addition, if you are soaking No Toils, then wringing them, you are using too much. This is according to Lura, their receptionist/filter specialist at No Toil. She recommended I get a ketchup dispenser (from a 99 cent store), the kind you see at bar-b-que and on picnic tables, with the tapered pour spout. Fill that with No Toil filter oil (the oil applies more uniformly than the spray). When your filter is all clean and dry you simply pour oil on using the ketchup dispenser, in a stripe-like pattern on the outside of the filter. Wear latex gloves while you do this! Once the entire filter is striped, rub in with your gloves, turning the filter a very light pink. I go the extra mile and put a few stripes on the inside, then rub them in. Lura says coating the inside is not neccesary. Lura also said the Outerwear is not needed with a No Toil. I agree.

I run my No Toil three days in a row in the sand dunes. I have run it five days in a row in Oregon on a trip with Canniboomer. They do just fine. It is amazing they still suck in air after being so dirty, but they do! I rarely see any particles get all the way through to the inside of the foam (the yellow portion).

Cleaning is super easy, way easier than cleaning a K&N, and less messy. These filters rock!

Paul, for your filter, the UNI cleaner and oil kit is available at local shops for $12.95 retail, or I stock a few kits here to include with parts orders, for $12. You can also use other standard foam filter cleaners and oils. Some guys still use gasoline, but I think it tends to leave a residue that causes the oil to break down a bit thinner, even if the filter survives.

I was just wondering about the No-Toil cleaner, since it is mentioned by UNI as not approved. I guess No-Toil says the same thing,...thanks James.
But then again, an alcohol product will dry MUCH faster, so you can get back to riding sooner (or just keep a bone-dry or pre-oiled extra UNI handy, if using water-rinse cleaners).

Dave,

You may want to offer a kit with two filters. i think the majority of racers out there prefer to have a precleaned filter so they can just swap and go and don't have to worry about waiting for one to dry.
