What is the hole on the roof of the intake port? Did you go to far?

Yeah, this was laying around for more then a year and now that I decided to put the engine together I finished the head.

I'm gonna bring it away soon to get the seats cut and then it won't take long before she gets fired up.

so what is the general concensus on the flat spot on the intake side where the air turns to enter the cylinder. I have a head that I ported like this one where I took down that hump to make more of a straight shot to the valve, and am now wondering if I should port a diferent head to use and leave that flat hump in there? from what I have read, it seams that the sharp angle there actually helps with the airflow. has anyone dyno'd each way to see what the effect is of removing much of that hump?? thanks.

I remove it and have seen good results. My understanding is that it creates a low pressure spot on the backside of it to get air to curl back and enter through the valve opening easily. I think it would make more of a difference on a carb'd engine at low rpm's.
