I have the battery size listed here and there was no modification needed. I think you should check the number on your battery. There was a second # floating around that had similar cca's as the one listed, but was taller.

I think blaze#52 got the YTX12-BS.....the 12 series of the stock size. The stock battery is a YTX9-BS.

Battery Type: YTX9-BS
Voltage: 12
Capacity: 8
Dimensions: 6" x 3.4375" x 4.1875"
Weight: 5.4 lbs.
Metric Dimensions: 150mm x 87mm x 105mm
Metric Weight: 2.5 kg
Polarity:
Acid Volume: 0.4
Amps: 0.9
C.C.A.: 120

Battery Type: YT12A-BS
Voltage: 12
Capacity: 9.5
Dimensions: 6" x 3.4375" x 4.1875"
Weight: 6.3 lbs.
Metric Dimensions: 150mm x 87mm x 105mm
Metric Weight: 2.8 kg
Polarity:
Acid Volume: 0.5
Amps: 1
C.C.A.: 175

Battery Family: Maintenance Free
Battery Type: YTX12-BS
Voltage: 12
Capacity: 10
Dimensions: 6" x 3.4375" x 5.125"
Weight: 7.5 lbs.
Metric Dimensions: 150mm x 87mm x 130mm
Metric Weight: 3.4 kg
Polarity:
Acid Volume: 0.6
Amps: 1.2
C.C.A.: 180

As you can see the YTX12-BS is about an inch taller than the stock YTX9-BS. However, the YT12A-BS is the same size as stock with more CCA, higher output, and higher capacity.

THe one Blaze#52 has is even better, but will be a tight fit.

yeah i have the maintainence free battery. it is a sealed gel battery, it is expensive but it is worth it. no problems to date with starting system as opposed to the 9 sized battery, especially in 20 degree weather

Just thought I would bring this to the top. The website mentioned does still carry both the batteries listed.

I think he was talking about the YTX9-BS for right at 30. The 12A is the same size but more CCA and is like 54 bucks.
