Better make this a sticky .

How to find out of you

Q Have a spun flywheel.
A Remove the flywheel nut and washer. The keyway in the end of the crank should be perfeclty aligned with the C cast into the word Cannondale on the face of the flywheel.

Q Have a steel sleeve or a aluminum sleeve.
A Pop the water outlet off and check the sleeve through the hole with a magnet.

Q Have oil flow.
A Pop the engine oil dipstick out of and look in with a flashlight while the engine is running. If it's a river its flowing

Q Have bent tabs on your clutch discs
A Remove the tranny fill and look at it with a flashlight. The disc closest to the engine is the first to fold the tabs.

Q Have a crank bearing going out
A Remove the oil filter. If its a paper one wrap it in a dry rag tightly for a half hour. When dry metal flakes show up with a light. If it's a stainless filter the metal will be easy to see. Brass colored chips is an early case main bearing.

Q Have good fuel flow
A Remove gas cap and prime the system. If it's good it should spray out the right side return line as you look through the hole enough to hit the top of the tank or very close to it.

Q Need swingarm pivot bearings
A On a hydro clutch engine the chain will start to rub on the slave cyllinder.

Q Have a front wheel bearing going bad.
A While riding you find yourself having to pump up the front brake lever once in a while to get full brakes.

Q Have a worn out timing chain.
A Return the chain tensioner to full back position and count the clicks it takes to self tighten the chain. Anything more than 9 is should be replaced.

Q Have a bad main oil pump
A Remove oil filter cover and crank engine. If oil pumps out its good.

Q Have a bad scavange pump.
A Oil usually blasts out the breather as it runs. Removing the scavange pump hose and cranking the engine will pump oil out.

Q If your cam lobes are worn beyond minimum. Hard to tell if oily and shiny.
A The edge of the lobe has small chamfer on it. If you see or feel it being sharp at the tip or cannot see the tiny bevel the lobe is worn beyong minumum.
