the bearings seem fine when i rotat them, the way the motor suposed to but. when it goes backward it make bad sounds but seem smooth going in the right way. and they seem like i can allmost take them out like there going to fall. but i cant pull them out. how much r new ones what about z400 bearing.

Z400 bearing is ~$35. Cage discoloration is a quick test as to whether the bearing is on its way out. The silver plating starts to eat away revealing a coppery color beneath it.

ok i took the casing off and i didnt see any. copper color of any sort ,but i might just get the bearing just to be safe.

are you working with the rod bearing or crank bearings?? just asking cause to get the rod bearing out you need to press the crank apart and the way i understand it is if you dont press the crank apart correctly you can wreck it. the bearings should move freely in either direction if the dont replacing them is a good idea.

"Though shalt not put an 18-roller big-end rod bearing back in a Cannondale " -- not once you have it out and in your hand anyway.

But I'm with darkknight on not being sure of whether you are talking about the crank side mainbearings?,... or the single internal rod bearing? If the main bearings are "notchy" it is recommended to replace them. They feel rough for a reason, and that reason is usually hard metal debris inside wearing at the rollers and races.

FYI to everyone...........the price of the Z400 bearing isn't what is used to be. We are looking at about $55 now.

I remember when we first started the artic cat bearings were as cheap as $19 then after a few months they jumped up to $33. They must have a program in the parts system that jacks prices up when the demand rises.

I told Tim yesterday we should have stock piled some of them.

I worked at an Arctic Cat dealer late last year, I wish I had thought to do that I could have ordered a bunch at cost.

Someone here has to work for a dealer?
