charging system problem found

i have found problem with my charging system.i thought it might help someone else with simular problem.i was checking my rectifier-voltage regulater when i noticed a slight ground on one of the yellow phase wires going into the regulater, just a slight flash on ohm meter on a high scale reading.i hooked it up again without mounting it so it would not touch frame,with 4 wheeler running my full voltage was back at idle,if i held it close to frame it arced over and went to single phase voltage on ac side, battery voltage on dc side went below 12vdc.my voltage regulater was bad . hope this helps someone with charging problems,most dealers wont even talk to you about a cannondale
