Topic say it all. 1st person to guess what caused the damage in the motor wins a Cannondaleriders callendar. Look closely at the valves. Here's the sad thing. This motor was sold to another member for over 2000 dollars supposed to be a good running motor. Who will no longer be a member. There is no way this motor ran when the purchaser recieved it and it was sold knowing it was bad. This caused another member to get out of cannondales because of being ripped off. $2000+ for a non running motor and claiming its good is just a plain crook. Anyway, who can guess what killed this motor?

Id say the timing chain was wore out or the clutch was slipping. Maybe the tire pressure was to high.

Looks like dirt or sand. Since you only showed us the intakes my guess is a motor ran without a filter or a lot of dirt in the motor. There appears to be too much carbon on the valves for a water leak.

We got a winner,Happyboy! Yes that is sand on the valves. Also sand in the intake port and exhaust post(glass). Cylinder scarred and piston and rings stuck in the piston. This is plain abuse. No need for sand to get in motor. Sad to say but watch buying motors from people. There is scum out there. If you are buying a motor especially for high dollar insist on hearing it run or some kind of guarentee. This motor never ran for the customer and was sold as a running motor for over $2000. Now that is plain criminal! There's no way a motor with sand in it with stuck ring ran! Watch out most people are honest but there are crooks out there. The person who sold this motor has been banned. Congratulations happyboy callendar coming your way!

Buyer beware. In this market anyone buying engines should just assume they are worn out and have no updates. That is unless the seller has a very good long track record of feedback. Even then it would be worth it to have it torn down and inspected before paying for it. If the seller has reservations then run run run.
