flipped rims

is flipping rims to add width bad for them or the hubs?

It's a cheap solution but not the best. When you flip your rims, you change the leverage and your shocks won't work as well. More likely to bend a tie rod. A lot harder to control when hitting bumps and ruts as the added force will make it easier to rip the handle bars from your hands.

Your valve stems will hit your brake calipers too.

That's an easy fix though. You can get flush mount valve stems. Or option 2 is to plug the old holes and then drill the oposite side. Flush mount out of like JC whiney catalog is the easier option though.

how to you inflate the tires with those flush mount stems?

The set I had years ago came with a screw in adapter to extend them for inflation.
