Front End Alignment

How in the heckdo i measure toe in...i can get each tire pointing like 16.5 inches in the front from the corner of the bumper...but how do i measure toe in like how do i know what point is the same point as the point i am measuring from in the front? where does everyone measure from? thanks guys
