Steering stem bearing

The lower ball bearing...
On one side, the race sticks out about 3/8" further than the other. I'm figuring the wide side goes toward the bottom of the quad/ground. Otherwise, it would be raising the steering stem, which would be no good for the sake of the tie rods. Just want to make sure I'm figuring this correctly before I put it back together. My memory is failing me! Where's my cane?
