Cannondaleriders

I haven't seen any post about this so I thought I'd let you all know.

I realized yesterday when installing a rear shock on my 03 Cannibal that Cannondale changed the lower shock mount bolt from the 02's. The bolt is a couple sizes bigger and they changed the shocks bushing to accomodate.

Wasnt that to address a bolt breakage issue? I snapped mine sometime last summer after a session at a mx track.

I think I remember someone breaking a lower shock bolt on the Hatfield McCoy ride too, no?

I had a full set of shocks that Jeff did the SSD conversion on that I was installing. Imagine my surprise when the bolt wouldn't fit. If I would have realized there was a difference, I would have sent him an 03 shock, I had an Ohlins on the quad.

No big deal though, I drilled the bushings out with Nrath's drill press.

I'm sure the lower shock mount could be drilled out to accept the larger bolt pretty easy if anyone wanted to upgrade it.

I might end up doing the same procedure to a shock that Jeff has right now. I think the Ohlins that I sent him is actually off of an MX400 so I have no idea what size the mount hole on the bushing will be. I didn't know there was any difference... hmm... might need to make my way to the hardware I used to work at and borrow the drill press ... wouldn't be the first time :hammer:

Jeff can probably change the bushings out for you while he has it. The only problem is I'm not sure when they actually made the change, it could have been mid year.

Thanks, I'll have to ask him what his opinion on it is and see if he'll change it for my early 2003 Blaze .. if it needs it ... :hammer:

Actually all you need to do is change the bushings from your old shock. Or you could use the dreaded drill, like I had to do on the new Elka. Kinda makes you wonder how sane we really are, puttin a brand new shock in the press and drilling away!
