XC tire sizes

#1 Post by LapTraffic »

I raced on 22" fronts and 20" rears last year. Liked the tires, never got a flat and never really got stuck either but wanted to go into this season with a little more thought given to my tire purchase.

What do you GNCC guys run for tire size front and rear?

Thanks for the help!

same here, 22" razors up front, and 20'' holeshots in the back, had good luck with them, it is all about the momentum. 22 are nice in back for usually the last lap of the GNCC's but i will stick with the 20's

Please elaborate why on the last lap ... I am looking to purchase a tire package for a desert race.. Would a 9" rim be a good choice out back or an 8" rim???

My guess would be ground clearance, but I don't understand the last lap thing.

Conditions get worse, ruts get deeper, mud thicker, etc ... as more traffic goes through. The added clearance would then be a big bonus.

Yeah, but he said to go smaller later not bigger.

I would go with a 9" rim due to the smaller ammount of sidewall. That is usually where I get my holes.

He said 22 (bigger) would be nice for the last lap but he was sticking with 20s.

Does anyone run the 22s?
Other than a little worse handling, is there a downside?
I just know that I have been stuck with 20s in deep mud and the extra clearance would have bee nice.
