Advice on Steering Dampners

Don't know much about Dampners except they cost big $$$.
SO......
What do you look for when buying one? What makes one better than the other? And to they realy work?
Also if you had to pick between HMF slip on exhaust or a steering Dampner, what would pick.

They work awesome!I like the Denton 7 pos. nonrebuildable units.

For the price don't you want to buy one that can be rebuilt?

I had a rebuildable and it ended up leaking in a month.My nonrebuildable one is off my 250r and is 8 years old and it still works great.

I guess my next questions would be...
Why would one leak over the other, different construction?
How much is it to have it rebuilt? Lets say if it is like 50bucks than it is not worth buying the rebuildable one.. or at lease that is how I look at it
What about the scott one and the PEP one??? anyone out there can you comment???

it all depends on the type of riding u do. if u race xc you need a dampner more than the slip on. for mx i'd go with the slip on unless the tracks were really nasty.
if you're running the stock toaster exhaust you could gut it for $0 and it'd flow a lot better. and if you update your tie rod ends to the kevlar/teflon type(rod end supply) you really don't need a dampner, those ends are stiff. and a set of 4 will only run u about $75 shipped.

Do you have any photos on how or what to gut out of the stock toaster exhaust? Don't you need to be carefull, to make sure you still have the correct amount of back pressure? What is inside of those HMF exhaust that make them cost so much??
Also who stocks these kevlar/teflon rod end supply, do you have a web site that I can read up more on them?

i think wistech is the guy to talk to about toaster gutting. i know poeple have done it with good results, but i have an hmf...
www.rodendsupply.comin the steering and sus. forum i put the part numbers for them, might have to go back a few pages to find them.
