Long Travel Front End

Hey at the Virginia Beach race i remember seeing a kid running moto a-arms with standered length ohlins shocks....Is this a bad idea? I am the market fr new aarms but cannont afford shocks at the same time but would eventually like to have long travel...is it a bad idea to put std travel shocks on the long travel setup?

It is a bad idea! The quad will sit too low causing the frame to hit the ground hard when landing jumps. The shocks will also be way to soft for extended arms.

LOL, don't do it! I did this with a set of housers and man, my front of the belly skid plate was 2 inches off the ground. My wife started singing LOW RIDER. I couldn't make it up the driveway curb it was so low.

Oh yeah, been there, flipped that. Thats right, flipped it. The tie rods rubbed and caught when I had my rear end sliding. Such a bad thing.


Anyone notice I am starting a trend? Flipping my quad that is. The latest makes it 3 times.

...somebody has to be our "rollover specialist" .. I thought I would take top honors for that, but I guess we're tied!! smile.gif

Jeff i was told that since im only 140 with all my gear if i put ext a arms on the shocks will not be to soft because they are set up for 180 is this tru?

rofl, you can have that honor. I am sick and tired of rolling over, it hurts way too bad!! Its been 2 weeks and my hip and back are still swollen and hurting.....wah, someone call the wahmbulance for me, i am in pain!!


As for the shocks again, if you have a set of moto arms near by then go ahead and try it out. I wouldn't recomend it, but I am biased by a side ways flip. Jeff won't recomend it becuase he is much smarter than me and won't even test that route. He leaves it up to people like me and boomer to try out those bad ideas.

But, only you can truely say its not for you. There are tricks that you can do with the suspension for TT tracks that noone would recomend but they would be safe enough to do but just for TT. If you want to do this for normal riding then I would vote no, not healthy.

Warning, wear a helmet and have medicals professionals near bye. smile.gif

haha i think i will go with jeff on this one and leave it up to uguys for the rollover tests haha im just trying to find a front end lol i wanna stay tires down lol

Right on. I tried running Blaze Ohlins on +2 Eyeball arms and it was perfect for whoops and small jumps and such and felt awesome but anything over 5ft of air made hard landings. Lets just say I switched them out after one ride. BTW: I weigh about 145 w/all gear. Putting on 180lb valved shocks on +2 arms for example will make it set for like a 120lb rider or less.

The only reason the kid you saw was getting away with the short shocks and long arms is the sand, and a hard butt. If you are going to resort to trail riding and playing on the flats for a couple months until you get the long shocks, try it out. I wont make any garrantees, but it might work out. I can say this, if you jump it, it will cry, just some advise, tried a +2 setup on ohlins and almost wet myself when I hit a 30ft double. Yeah, felt like I was going to wear my :w: as a head band. And that was just a 30ft double. TT or flat track, I havent had the opertunity to try a little shorter shock on a long travel setup, but I am itching to with a stiffer spring setup, think'n I might turn pro on a setup like that. lol
