Which MX tire?

#1 Post by KYmxracer52 »

Guys, I need some opinions and facts. I'm going to get a new rear set of tires and was wandering which of these 3 are good? I'm looking at either the ITP MXR4, Razr, or Knarly MX. I want something that lasts decent and hooks up pretty good on hard-pack, and open on thick loam. I don't like a tire that hooks too much in corners, cause I like to be able to pitch the rear when needed. As far as price, wear, slide ability, and hookup.....which do you mx racers recommend. Im running the MXR's right now and like the performance, but they wear quick and want to hook a little too much at times. Help me decide.

Look at the Kenda Klaws. I'm sold on them for life, never had a better tire. Theres a thread on here somewhere about tires, ask USAmoto, he likes. An awsome tire, I'd pay more for them vs anything else.

I'm thinking about trying the Knarly MX's. They look wicked and I've heard people say they do good. I'll wait and hear some other views on this. The Klaws are suppose to do very good. DO they seem heavy?

The klaws would probably be better since they are reversible and Jeff Stoess says they are much better than the knarlys for hardpack.

I have my MXR4's. I have 3 practices and 2 races on them and they aren't wearing too bad. I like them, sometimes they can hook up a little too much, but I just put more air in them so they slide a bit better. I really like thim in the loose stuff, but they do tend to slide more than I want on hard pack.

I am also slow, so yours will probably wear faster than mine.

Im going with the razor mx's. They say razors last longer and slides good in turns and hooks up well on straight aways. I'll let you know how they are when they are mounted.

My brother had an old set of 18" Razrs on his 250R, but this was before they called them Razr MX's. They may have changed the compound since then, but his didn't hook up too good after they were wore down just a little. 250R's don't hook as good as 4 strokes anyway, but the new ones may hook good. They sure do last though!! I'll think about it for a week before I buy. Keep the replys coming.

Well, I'm really turning into the Siskel and Ebert of tires. lol I have ridden on the Kenda Klaws and the Maxxis Razr MX rears for awhile now. My next torture test will be the MXR4's. I really like the Klaws when they are in the soft pack position, I don't like them much at all in the hard pack direction. Their wear is okay at best with the edge going to the Razr's for wear. For all around best for your money, I'm going to have to go with the Razr again. Now I know Farrar would disagree with me on that because I know he likes the MXR4's. BUT, that's why I'm trying them next. The Knarley's are like the old MXR's, they are VERY soft and wear very quick. Just my opinions.:usa

I thought the Knarlys were suppose to last pretty good. I figured they would last quite a bit longer than the MXR4's, but not as long as the Razr.

I personally like the klaws myself. they are cheaper than the ITPs
and hook up just as good. rode knarlys once and thought they were more of a "soft stuff" tire. kendas for life! unless i get a sponser some day. ya right!
