New tires-what to run?

I'm getting new treads and am undecided on what to get. I am debating between Holeshot HD's, Kenda Klaw XC's, of Maxxis I-Razrs. I mainly ride trails with a couple of week long trips to the desert throughout the year. I also plan on riding the Pismo race this year which in the dunes, but paddles are not allowed (my main motivation for the I-razr's).

As always all experiences, comments and opinions are welcome and encouraged! Thanks guys.

I'm partial to the HD's. I have rode with them in the sand and they work pretty darn good, and mud is even better. Their only real draw back is the weight, they are heavy buggers. All in all, I like them the best. Just my thoughts on the subject.

Timbo is re-building my motor right now w/big bore & stroker so I doubt the extra weight would hurt, plus I'm getting new Hipers as well-that may very well offset the weight.

hipers aren't any lighter than any other beadlock wheel and definately heavier than plain aluminum wheels. for the riding you described i'd stick with the claws or just a set of razr 1 6 plys. both tires are relatively cheap and hold up well, plus they slide predictably and don't weigh a ton.

cdrookie is right. Hipers are pretty heavy. From what I hear, they are about the same weight as aluminum beadlocks.

I run the Kenda's and I'm pretty happy with them.

JessHamner rode my quad at Glamis with Kenda's on it, he could probably give some sand feedback.

I would say that the HD's hook up well on the Glamis sand.................but that sand had more traction then ever, because it was rained on. Its not normal to pull wheelies DOWNHILL at glamis.......and it even had a crappy map

But in the few spots I rode on, that had dry sand, they hooked up alright:head:

I only rode the kendas and paddles so I didn't really have anything to compare the kendas with. They did ok and I was able to climb almost anything. Mjollnir was telling me that holeshots aren't bad and are actually faster on the topend. I'll defintely say that you can get around with the kendas on sand.

I will add that I have never run any I Razors, so I dont know how they do. The tire I hate the most is the Holeshot, especailly the XC's, they're hard to change, dont slide worth a hoot. The fronts wonder, its like herding a high speed cow around. I own a set of XC's and wouldn't get another set if they gave them to me. If you like them, all the luck. Just my thoughts.

The I razors worked well, but I am not too sure about the sand. I would probably have to pick the HD's if it were my choice. I thought the Kenda's slid too much on hard pack and they are a stiff compound. Good durable tire for the money though.
