What type of switch did you install?

I guess the question I should have asked is; What brand? Is it a normally open or a normally closed switch?

I know on the Pingle switch that I have you leave the on/off switch on the bike.

There are 2 butt plugs that you feed down the steering stem with all of the other lines and wires, then you disconnect the purple and blue wires from the bundle up on top the radiator, and plug the wires from the switch into those 2 wires.

I had the other type of kill switch for a time also, and with that one I did have to disconnect the on/off switch, but when I did that I had to connect the 2 lines together to make the circuit work right.
