how to tell if its going bad

what are some tel tale signs of a bad engine? oil looked fine, trans oil was fime, no metal in filters.. might need adjustment on valves. are these engines a tad on the noisy side? nrod knocks ect but sound like a sewing machine.. sort of like my yz 450 but a tad louder...

These motors are very loud compared to other brands, but they do make good power :-)
