Just wondering what it might be worth. Bought it about 3 weeks ago and this last weekend while riding dropped a valve. It ran great before that. I paid 2 grand for it (way too much I know) But just gonna try to recover some of my losses. Thanks everyone.

Ouch! Dredded sticky bucket more than likely. Are you parting her out? Thanks

IF the quad is in very good condition ( no worn parts, bearings all good ,no cracks or damaged plastic) then the rolling chassis should fetch $500 + . The engine having a dropped valve which indicates smoked cams, head and bent con rod possible broken case will have very little value . Things like aluminum valve cover and metal oil pump gears would make it worth a few hundred. The things that fx400's had going for them was thier very sweet smoke gray plastic and mini front fender mud flaps which if in very nice shape could fetch $300 to $400.

You might want to think about it for a while and maybe decide if you want to be a Cannondale guy . Engines can be resurected for cheap if you take your time and find the deals. Ive purchased running engines as low as $200 . Sometimes dropped valves dont do a whole lot of damage . Maybe the engine is salvageable without the need to throw thousands at it. There of course a PROPER teardown and inspection is needed. Can you turn a wrench yourself?

As far as parting it out there is very little of value on an fx400 and you will only have a pile of parts as opposed to a somewhat complete rolling chassis . Look on ebay for selling prices not buy it now prices.

It could also be the early style gold aluminum valve retainers pulling through which they have been known to do. A proper teardown and inspection is needed regardless of what you do.

Well im not sure what way to go with it yet. Wistech I wish it had those plastics haha. It has red plastics, no flaps or the detachable fenders. If I was able to pick up another cable clutch engine are there any differences sensor wise between the 500 and 1000 series ecus?
