headers & slip ons!

#1 Post by rob_me686 »

my question to you guys is this
when installin a slip on exhaust
is there any need for a type of sealent to fit around the header side of the pipe thats going to be inserted into the exhaust itself?
im talking like the part of the header pipe that the exhaust slips over *hense slip on* but is there a sealent that should be used while doing this?
thanks

I've never used any sealant with my HMFs. The silencers slide way up on the header and iit's a really tight fit, so I've never needed any.

If you silencer is loose on the header and leaking I guess you might need some type of sealant, not sure what type to reccomend though.

I know some of the newer HMF full systems came with a clamp. You may just want to look into a clamp. I would imagine any sealant would have issues with the heat.

yeah that makes sense
with the sealent having problems with the heat and all
so the pipe is supposed to slide as far up on the header as it can correct?
thanks

Yup, they overlap pretty far and they are pretty snug.

I've used Hi-Temp Silicone on my 250R. It won't melt with the heat.
