I went from 13 to 14 on front and used the same chain barely.

I barely got my chain on with the new sprocket, but it doesn't have much slack and I was afraid that it will break or wear-out the chain guide & buffers.

When I went from a 13 tooth to a 14 tooth I could not make my stock length chain work.

I adjusted the carrier as far forward as possible and used the stock chain w/no problems.

I heared the front sprocket from a yzf 450 will work on the c-dale.

#52 your using a 14-38 set-up on your c-dale? What mods do you have done so it will pull? I would like to get enough power to pull a 14-36 if possible.

i use 14/38 also. it pulls great without excessive wheel spin. just been trying different maps and now have a hmf slip on. i'm using 20" razrs now but was using 22" razrs and it still was great for xc.
i wouldn't go any smaller than 38 cause you will be replacing swingarm buffers all the time. it's bad enough with a 38 rear, only get about 6 races per buffer.

You guys that are running the 14/38 gearing. Do you actually use this ratio for racing? What gear are you taking off in at the start of a race?

The reason I ask, is because a few days before the national race at Echeconnee earlier this year I switched to 14/39 sprockets. Now I always run MX so I always have 18 inch tires. Let me say that I hated this gearing. I took off in second and I was murdered going into the first turn, wound up next to last I think. The gear ratio felt fine until I had to go head to head fighting for a holeshot.

Anyway, after the nationals I gave the gearing one more chance because I had a local race about two weeks later right back at Echeconnee. I started in second again and it was the same story, last place.

Well after these two events I decided I had enough. So now I am running the stock rear sprocket and a 14 on the front instead of the 13.

We had another local race at Echeconnee on 8-29-04. This was the first time I had been back to this place since the gear change. I started in second as before but this time the starting results were much better. Now let me add that I don't mind shifting after leaving the gate so that may make the difference for me.

Anyway here is a few pics of the start. The only quad that was in front of me was Hunter Johnson's YFZ and that is Austin Britt's CRF 450 to my right.
