Small question on my crank rod

#1 Post by cannondale440 »

Heres alittle update of my engine tear down and inspection. Is that discoloration from heat in the first pic? The next two are supposed to show small end freeplay on the rod.

the discoloration could be from heat, the rod is supposed to have side clearence on it, the spec it .002 to .018" clearence with a service limit of .040, it is it out i would send it out and have it updated with the z400 bearing.

Give it my hammer test.Set crank on a rag on your bench turn it to TDC then lightly holding the rod straight up with two fingers take a rubber mallet and tap the small end of the rod.Note the sound it makes if mettalic clang fix the crank. If a dull thud(sound of rubber mallet)it is good to go as long as it is in sync, true and to correct width.Looks like a brand new crank to me so it would be cheap to have z400 bearing installed if it is still god yet.
