Got my crank out tonight finally. thought it was the crank going out when i discovered metal fillings in my filter. discovered a triangle piece missing that cracked out of the case on the flywheel side. its on front edge of where the bearing is pressed into the case. i will get pics, cameras dead right now. what do u guys recomend? its only a couple mm thick like it cracked and flacked off, like a first layer. for your info its an 02 with hydroclutch case, not a cable machined to fit the hydro.

I will wait for a pic but yours is the third one cracking in that area.Wistech will be interested in this also.

It can be repaired. I've repaired a lot of cases that I thought were junk in the past couple of weeks. I bought a TIG machine a couple of months ago and I've been welding on any piece of aluminum I can find. I had some old Blaster cases that a rod went through. They welded up nicely. Can't really tell they were ever damaged. Had a crank plate and a trans plate with an ear broke off. Fixed those right up. I don't think there is anything that can't be fixed. TIG welds done correctly are as strong or even stronger than the original material. Find a good machine shop in your area and see what they think. Don't throw it away. If nobody wants to fix it, send it to me. I'll give it a shot.

finally got a pic, circled the cracked part in red. any help on what to do with this would be great.

Yes I have one with a crack in the same spot. Repairing cases in spots like engine mounts and puncture damage is one thing . But where our cases are broken is the main crankshaft support area. The way I see it if it cracked there the first time it the repair will have to be made stronger than the original case material. Nothing can be added on the inside but on the outside by the stator you could add up to a half inch of filler material to beef it up. I had a spare case but if it wouldnt hurt to give a repair a shot. If it cracks again it will just leak into the stator housing so no big deal. My welder isnt powerfull enough for that thickness so i will talk to a specialist tommorow and see what he thinks.

If 1/2 inch of filler could be added to the back, there is no way it would break there again. It would probably take nearly 300 amps with the frequency cranked up, turn the pulse way up, and bevel the crack real good first. If you have a Dynasty 300DX or Synchrowave 350 you could do it easily. A Dynasty 200DX could possibly do it if you had some 75/25 Argon Helium and a good preheat.
