Use some "prepsol" to wipe the cover down before and let it air dry. Some brake cleaners will leave a residue. I just tried the Ford part # listed, and it worked perfectly.
what does your tube say on it Doug? Mine has "RTV for use on Ford 7.3 Diesel" or something like that. It is one of those half tubes for the silicone gun. Is that the same thing you have? I think it says t32 on it.

In the past, i've had wrinkle black paint come of HD motors in service, now I only use Lacquer Thinner, as a final rinse. The point is, not all brake parts cleaners are created equal.
Got the Timbo stroker motor running and just doing the clutch cover makes a substantial difference. Still not as quiet as doing the whole thing but way better than nothing.
That engines got some serious SNAP to it. I just zipped across the parking lot and it would spin the tires just thinking about it.
I sandblasted my covers this morning and wiped them down with rubbing alcohol. I coated them at about 8:30 am. Hopefully I will put the motor back in tomorrow.
I don't know if I'm being too picky or what. I just peeled it all off again. How hard should it be to take off? All I am doing is rubbing my finger against it and it rolls off. I am going to try a different kind of RTV and see if it works.
